Qualifications in Independent Advocacy

Inclusive Access is a City & Guilds accredited centre delivering the Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Independent Advocacy.

Work based
These qualifications are work-based – candidates evidence learning outcomes by building a portfolio of work which demonstrates their ability, skills, and experience and how they have applied it in practical settings.
why have the qualifications?
The IAQ was introduced in response to a need felt by the advocacy sector and the government to improve standards and consistency of practice in advocacy across the UK. The qualifications set out the standards which advocates should work towards. For the statutory advocacy services – IMHA, IMCA, and DoLS - the Qualifications are compulsory.
The inclusive access approach
We deliver the qualification very much on a one-to-one basis ensuring that each advocate understands how to create their portfolio of evidence, how to match their experience to the learning outcomes.A named assessor who is also an experienced advocate guides them through the process and answer their questions as they occur.
Experienced advocates to assess
We use experienced and practicing advocates from our parent organisation, Wired, as assessors. This gives candidates access to a wealth of knowledge on the theory behind independent advocacy as well as the reassurance that their assessor has a detailed understanding of the issues advocates experience in their roles.

Qualification Structure
The Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Independent Advocacy are evidence based qualifications in which candidates create a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that they meet the various learning outcomes of each unit.

To complete the certificate, candidates need to complete the four core units and one specialist unit; for the Diploma it is 2 specialist units.  These are chosen based on the Advocates job role and require a case load of around 4 - 6 clients as a minimum.

From time to time we run promotions and special offers for people who have completed the specialist units and who would then like to go and become fully qualified.
